About Flex Pilates

Flex Pilates is all about flexibility—both for your body and your schedule.

Alignment. Balance. Concentration. Coordination. Body awareness and muscle control. Strength. Classes are designed to provide a challenging and fun workout.

Originally developed in the 1920's by Joseph Pilates, Pilates is a total-body conditioning workout that focuses on balance, concentration, alignment and control, while improving deep core strength, muscle control, flexibility, coordination and body tone. Flex Pilates builds off the original exercises of Joseph Pilates, incorporating today’s current exercise and scientific knowledge of what bodies need.

Why come to Flex Pilates classes?

Quite simply, because Flex Pilates is both fun and flexible!

Exercise should be enjoyable—not stressful—so come to class when it works for you. You will exercise body, mind and spirit as we move creatively on and around the mat and reformer for a full body workout.

The benefits are amazing—you will see an increase in your flexibility, strength, power, coordination, balance, control, breathing, and you’ll relax, get out of your head for an hour (yay!), smile, laugh and get some stress relief.

About Robin

Pilates and movement make me happy! I wish I had known about Pilates as a teenager as a member of Canada’s National Rhythmic Gymnastics Team. As a teen, I was fortunate to travel and compete all over the world, winning many competitions and awards, provincially, nationally and internationally. I started coaching at 14 in Toronto, then in Montreal while at McGill and then in my twenties, was recruited to Australia before the 2000 Sydney Olympics to coach Australian National gymnasts and the next generation coming up behind them. I tried Pilates for the first time in the ‘80s after I “retired” from elite sport and then did a lot of Ashtanga yoga and ran for the next three decades, running many 5K, 10K, half and full marathons. I came back to Pilates when I experienced some injuries. I wish I had done more of it through my teens, 20s and 30s. Alas, hindsight…Today, Pilates keeps me strong and healthy! I’m a ‘fun-draising’ executive by day, and nights/weekends, I love teaching Pilates and movement. I love seeing people feel the joy of Pilates—the strength and freedom of movement it brings and the focus and relaxation. There is no thinking about to-do lists at Flex Pilates!

I like to “play” with the versatility of Pilates exercises (both on the mat and reformer), build on the classical Pilates exercises, and choreograph fun and challenging classes. No class is ever the same so you’ll be entertained to see what’s next and how much (more) you can do!
