Thoughts for a New Year

“In an age of speed, I began to think, nothing could be more invigorating than going slow. In an age of distraction, nothing can feel more luxurious than paying attention. And in an age of constant movement, nothing is more urgent than sitting still.”
Pico Iyer, The Art of Stillness, 2014

One of my favourite books is Pico Iyer’s “The Art of Stillness”. Iyer is an author, traveller, travel writer, and philosopher. He’s had many millions listen to his TED Talks. I love his thoughts on slowing down, not that I’m great at doing that, but Pilates does help me slow down a little, and it centres me, that’s for sure. For 2025, I will again return to Iyer’s thoughts on stillness and slowing down. I plan to focus on the things I love (Pilates, travel, reading, music, art, long walks with my dog Mocha, my family and friends AND my amazing Flex Pilates community) and remember to find stillness each day.

In our too-busy lives, I agree with Iyer that “there’s never been a greater need to slow down, tune out and give ourselves permission to be still.” May we all find joy, peace, and good health as the year turns over anew. I look forward to sharing lots of Pilates, laughter, joy AND stillness with you in 2025. XO
